Younger brother of Arnold Bode. 1917/1918 apprenticeship as carpenter, followed by an architectural study at the Staatliche Baugewerkschule Kassel and the Kunstakademie in Kassel.

From 1926 work as a freelance architect. Around 1935 foundation of an architectural office in Kassel, cooperation with the brothers Theo and Arnold Bode. During this time he received many commissions for the industry, construction of skyscrapers, film theatres and hotels in Landau, Berlin, Stralsund and Kassel, but also for designs of furniture.

1940-1942 work in the army vehicle fleet, then in the Henschel construction department until 1945. 1945-1948 district architect in Kassel Nord/Holland and subsequently freelance architect in collaboration with Ernst Brundig. 1955-1959 design and construction of the Staatstheater Kassel with Ernst Brundig. Subsequently, termination of professional activity for health reasons.
