Emigration from Poland after the First World War. 1921-1925 study at the Bauhaus in Dessau with Paul Klee, Lyonel Feininger, Johannes Itten and Wassily Kandinsky. Subsequently continuation of study at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste München with Max Doerner.

In 1933 emigration to Palestine. There substantial involvement in the new concept of the Kunstschule Bezalel Academy of Arts and Painting, from 1935 teacher (among others of Yaacov Agam) and from 1940 to 1952 director. 1952-1963 advisor of the Israeli Ministry of Education and Culture. 1982-1984 design of the glass window „Jesaja’s Vision of Eternal Peace“ for the National Library of Israel. 1976/77 as scholar from the DAAD in West Berlin.
